Selected Works

After studying in London at the Slade School, at the University of Munich and with Oskar Kokoschka, Albert Adams returned to a South Africa riven by the practice of apartheid. He produced the two most important works of his early artistic life, which embodied his vision of the future South Africa.

“Adams’s South Africa is visionary in its conception and imagery. The work anticipates the apocalypse of apartheid that would traumatise the country for another 35 year years. it is timeous, now that South Africa has achieved freedom and democracy, that is is publicly exhibited again”
